Call for papers
Call for papers
The seminar invites an international scientific audience interested in agricultural risk management and income stabilisation.
In order to appropriately organise the seminar, participants who intend to contribute a paper are requested to email an abstract of maximal 2 pages (about 500 words) by October 15, 2007, to miranda.meuwissen@wur.nl.
The abstract should include the research question(s) addressed, the concepts and theories referred to, the materials and methods used and the results obtained.
Objectives
The seminar seeks contributions discussing both the origin of risks and income fluctuation in agriculture as well as possible solutions.
The intention is to discuss the appropriate mix of policy and private risk management instruments and their joint impact on farm-level risk and income stabilisation.
In the seminar both theoretical and applied papers are welcomed.
Topics
The seminar will be organised around four topics:
(1) Identification of causes of income fluctuations in agriculture. These causes can be “external events”, such as diseases, droughts and floods, and “policy-driven” changes such as a further liberalisation of commodity prices.
(2) Economic impact of risks in agriculture, which includes impact at commodity prices, income and viability at farm level, impact at the farm structure, and impact for food chains and the national economy as a whole
(3) Effectiveness and efficiency of public response to fluctuations in farm production, revenues and income.
(4) State of the art of private instruments to deal with agricultural (price) crises and risks.
Language
The official language of the seminar will be English.
